Character Profile
Character Name: Isegrim Hallward
Character Age: 20
Origin: Arunafeltz, Rahell
Job&Build: Moon guardian to the earth oracle (star gladiator).
Weapon Type: Fists
Looks&PB: Blessed with a kind of feminine beauty, Isegrim stands out among the men of Arunafeltz. He is slight of build, though his frame is unmistakably masculine. His hair and complexion are fair causing his expressive blue eyes to stand out even more. Isegrim's face can best be described as charming; his slightly crooked nose and generous lips give him a mischievous look that many consider his biggest drawing point. He is an unimpressive 5'10 and 154 lbs and considers himself to be one of the least intimidating individuals on the planet. Isegrim usually dresses himself in white or black in order to make himself stand out even more, though anything dramatic will do.
PB: Fye D. Flowright from Tsubasa: Resevoir Chronicles
Background: The child of a wizard and crusader who served the Arunafeltz theocracy, Isegrim was primarily raised by his grandmother. However, when his parents were around he was doted on as only a child so obviously blessed by Freya could be. Isegrim trained hard to become a guardian and every time he saw his parents he was rewarded for his work. At the age of 9, he was taken from his grandmother's home in the country to live with his parents in the capitol of Arunafeltz where he would be able to spend more time with them. Around this time his parents were alerted to the possibility of a spy within their ranks. An underground resistance movement had been growing over the past few years and while the military was doing all they could, the rebels were continuing to grow in numbers. With such exposure to the conflict, Isegrim began to question his parents about the situation, namely why it was so bad to go against the theocracy. His mother always answered vehemently, preaching the glory of the theocracy and warning him about questioning such things. His father, however, remained silent.
When Isegrim was 13, he returned home one day to find both his parents missing. They had been scheduled to return home that morning and though he knew it was too soon to be worried he felt his stomach lurch. Unable to do much else, he threw himself into his training and, when they had not yet returned a few days later, Isegrim began to panic. That night his mother returned and without a word dragged him to her peco and rode off to some unknown destination. She refused to answer any questions he had about where they were going or where his father was. At an outpost many miles from their home, she suddenly stopped, grabbed Isegrim by the arm and dragged him to a ditch beside the road. Horrified, Isegrim stared at the pile of charred flesh before him and prayed that he would not find his father's face within it. Though the faces were unrecognizable he did manage to spot the necklace his father always wore about his neck. When he sobbingly reached for it his mother struck him to the ground and tonelessly reminded him why they do not question the theocracy.
For a long while Isegrim wondered whether his mother had been the one to kill his father. It was obvious that he had been part of the resistance movement, though his mother refused to answer any questions on the subject. She retired from service soon thereafter and devoted herself to Isegrim's training. She taught him that being a man in their society was dangerous, that men could not bear to be dominated by women. Through his training she sought to endow in him the blessings women had been born with: patience, passivity, temperance and cunning. She encouraged him to go to bed with men and find in them the vulgarities that he had purged from himself. Isegrim tried as hard as he could to learn from his mother, though he felt a chasm being formed within himself. When he was selected to become a guardian to the earth oracle, his mother held him warmly to her, something she rarely did and held out the necklace she had worn in one hand and the one his father had worn in the other. Without hesitation, Isegrim accepted hers. She placed the other around her neck and bid him farewell.
Personality: Isegrim is a low-key individual who prides himself on his ability to deal with people. Very few dislike him and fewer still have ever beaten him in an argument. Though he can fret over small things, he is usually able to keep a cool head in an emergency. He does his best to exude a feminine air and strives to purge any traits he views as masculine from himself, which causes him a great deal of mental stress. Many who meet him cannot define his personality due to the fact that he develops a new façade for every situation. Isegrim has little to no sense of self and sometimes engages in reckless and promiscuous behavior because of it. Also, aside from his oracle, he feels no loyalty to or associates himself with any cause or organization.
Specifics
Likes: Surrounding himself with the luxurious, overcoming temptation, receiving someone's undivided attention, sex, riddles, receiving compliments and winning arguments.
Dislikes: Being lectured, helplessness (in himself and others), people who apologize constantly, political extremes and anything masculine.
Marital Status: Single
Family: His mother (Malekin Hallward) and grandmother (Muninn Kalvaitis).
Occupation: Moon guardian to the earth oracle.
Home: Hallel
Language Proficiency: Isegrim is fluent in basic and proficient in Feltzen.
"Oh, I'll settle down with some old story
About a boy who's just like me
Thought there was love in everything and everyone
You're so naive!
They always reach a sorry ending
They always get it in the end
Still it was worth it as I turned the pages solemnly, and then
With a winning smile, the poor boy
With naivety succeeds
At the final moment, I cried
I always cry at endings.
Oh, that wasn't what I meant to say at all
From where I'm sitting, rain
Falling against the lonely tenement
Has set my mind to wander
Into the windows of my lovers
They never know unless I write
'This is no declaration, I just thought I'd let you know goodbye,'
Said the hero in the story,
'It is mightier than swords
I could kill you sure
But I could only make you cry with these words.'"
- Belle and Sebastian, "Get me away from here, I'm Dying".
"Picture a place that's far from danger,
A nicer place to cash your chips.
I'm not the one holding you hostage
Squeezed inbetween my lips.
We're not supposed to be lovers
Or friends, like they'd have us believe.
We're not supposed to know each other.
Accept my apology.
I was a babe stuck in a tree branch,
Banging on my rusty cradle bars
Until i stole your middle finger.
Now who's the one in charge?
We're not supposed to be lovers
Or friends, like they'd have us believe.
We're not supposed to know each other.
Accept my apology.
Picture a person you've forgotten
Kissing your brother or your friend.
Picture a wounded entertainer
Cutting his hair again."
- Adam Green, "We're not Supposed to be Lovers".
